Rebel aunt angers Zulu loyalists

Princess Thembi Ndlovu, known as the “Royal Rebel Aunt,” announced over the weekend that the real king is still not yet known, enraging Zulus all around the country.

Since then, many social media users have insulted the princess and accused her of being a “typical rakgadi” – rakgadi is a Sotho word for your dad’s sister but in this context it means the meddling paternal aunt.

Princess Thembi, the aunt of King Misuzulu Zulu KaZwelithini, announced that the real king will be announced after the mourning period, which will last until the end of July.

Princess Thembi and other factions of the Royal family met last week at Gazini house to “appoint” Prince Simakade Zulu as the new king, but their discussions were evidently fruitless.

Social media didn’t take well to the royal aunt’s announcements.

“This one thinks she is Mkabayi” said a Twitter user, referring to the terrifying character on Isibaya.

“We already have the king,” said another user. “We don’t know what Princess Thembi is talking about. Our king is Prince Misuzulu kaZwelithini.”

Another user wrote: “This woman is married, why can’t she leave the royal family affairs alone and concentrate on her marital home. She must stop acting like a bitter rakgadi.”

Royal family spokesperson Prince Thulani Zulu didn’t want to confirm, dismissing the stories as hearsay.

The Royal clique is publicly opposed to the ascension of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini to the throne.

Princess Thembi told Scrolla.Africa that the mourning period will end next month, whereupon all the queens will remove their inzilo or mourning dresses.

“As far as we know, no one has been appointed to the throne until the mourning period is over. The period will end in July with rituals where about 10 cattle will be slaughtered to allow the king’s spirit to go to heaven and meet his ancestors and God,” said Princess Thembi.
