The son of a rickshaw driver in Delhi has joined one of the world’s top ballet schools in England.
A crowdfunding campaign supported by Bollywood stars helped Kamal Singh get this break.
The 21-year-old, who is joining the English National Ballet School, says he is still lost for words.
“I cannot explain how it feels. It is a dream come true. It’s amazing, I’m enjoying every day,” said Kamal, who managed to raise money for his studies totalling to about R430,000.
The Guardian reports Kamal only started ballet at 17 years old.
His mentor and teacher Fernando Aguilera in Delhi says he “knew immediately he was such a talent. He was completely flexible, like a rubber.
“He had a body that was ready-made for ballet by God. He just needed to be taught how to use it.”
