- She says she spent more on clothes and make-up than what she earned from the show.
Former Real Housewives of Durban star Slindile “Slee” Ndlovu says being on the hit reality show drained her bank account.
In an interview on The Spotlight podcast, Ndlovu opened up about how much she spent to look the part while getting paid peanuts.
“Everything came from our own pockets,” she said. “When I compared what I spent to what I was paid, it was just petrol money.”
Ndlovu said she left her job thinking the show would be a money-maker, but it turned out to be the opposite.
“I wasn’t making enough, yet I was constantly spending,” she said.
The biggest problem was trying to keep up appearances. “The show makes people think we are rich,” she said. “But being rich isn’t always about money.”
She said cast members even borrowed expensive clothes and accessories to keep up the illusion of wealth.
Despite all the complaints, executive producer Sam Kelly denied the claims of underpayment.
He told Sunday World the cast was never promised actor-level salaries. “All terms were agreed upon upfront,” he said, adding they were only paid enough to cover basic costs.
