Very few things can get the Springbok coach down, but the surgeon’s knife can as Rassie Erasmus gets hospitalised for a shoulder operation.
Rassie joked about his surgery and thanked fans for always supporting the team, even during tough times.
He also congratulated Pieter-Steph du Toit on being named World Rugby Player of the Year and praised other Springboks who made it into the World Rugby Dream XV.
Despite going under the knife, the Bok mentor made light of his shoulder op when he announced on X on Wednesday evening that he was going to hospital.
“I’m not going to show the pictures because I don’t think it’s worth showing. All OK, I think I’ll be out of the hospital by the weekend,” he said.
As always, he turned the focus back to the fans.
“I wanted to thank the fans for the amazing support this year,” he said. “Even when we tried some things and things weren’t going well, you always stood behind us.”
Rassie also congratulated Pieter-Steph du Toit on winning the World Rugby Player of the Year Award, as well as Ox Nche, Malcolm Marx, Eben Etzebeth, Damian de Allende, Jesse Kriel and Cheslin Kolbe, who were named in the World Rugby Dream XV.
He had a heartfelt message for the fans: “We play for you guys and for South Africa, also for those abroad who understand and see what we stand for as the Springboks. I appreciate that a lot.”
There is no official confirmation of the injury, but it is likely an old rugby injury that required attention.
He signed off with: “I will probably only hop on Twitter again next year. Cheers.”
