R3 million for a consultation – and a cup of coffee

By Emily Mgidi

Dr Tebogo Makena, also known as the “Oracle Under The Sun”, is making waves with his charge of R3 million for a consultation.

In an interview with Scrolla.Africa, Makena explained that he’s not a sangoma but an oracle, which is a fancy way of saying he acts as a medium for advice, or a prophecy, from the gods.

Hailing from Mamelodi West and now living in posh Waterfall Estate in Midrand, Makena wants to make it clear that he’s in a league of his own.

He’s known since he was five years old that he had the gift of healing, he said, and now he’s charging a pretty penny for his gift.

Critics on social media have slammed Makena for his exorbitant fees but he couldn’t care less. According to him, his clientele consists of high-end individuals who can afford his services.

Forget the traditional “ndumbas” where sangomas consult with their clients. Makena prefers the luxury of five-star hotels and boardrooms. And yes, he even offers coffee during your session.

Makena’s price list is as mind-boggling as his services. River cleansing will set you back a cool R75,000, relationship ties go for R250,000, marriage ties cost R550,000, and if you’re looking for business growth, be prepared to fork out a whopping million. But don’t worry, it’s all driven by the spirits he consults – or so he claims.

Unlike many traditional healers, Makena proudly declares that he never attended an initiation school. He boldly states that he can venture into any river, even ones that would scare initiated individuals away, and stay safe. Now that’s confidence!

While Makena may assist clients from around the world, he nevertheless has a specific target market: only the rich need apply. And for those still searching for their calling, he advises putting trust in God rather than in men, as He will guide the way.

Scrolla.Africa caught up with one of Makena’s clients, Nonhle Mkhwanazi from Durban.

Curiosity got the better of her and she logged on for an online consultation.

Surprisingly, that didn’t dent her wallet too badly – she only paid R15,000.

She described Makena as a friendly and gifted man and was impressed by his ability to reveal things that only her deceased mother would know.

She’s still dealing with her problem but plans to contact him again when she finds the time.
