More signings are expected from Premier Soccer League traditional giants Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
The transfer window closes on 22 September and the heavyweights are still participating in the market.
Chiefs have made eight signings but are still to improve in all departments, leaving coach Molefi Ntseki saying they need to beef up their midfield.
The name of Stellenbosch central midfielder Sibongoseni Mthethwa has been mentioned as a possible signing by the Soweto giants.
“The name of Mthethwa has also taken the rounds about him coming to Chiefs, and there have been many other players that were spoken about, but the most important thing is that he’s a good quality player,” Ntseki told the media.
“We would love to have him any time, whenever he’s available, whenever we have the resources to bring him in, but he’s a good player.”
“You don’t close the window if you can get any quality player coming to the club. We are still looking for quality players to come into the club to strengthen the team.
“Yes, we still have a few days left before the window closes, when it comes to player registrations, if ever we get an opportunity to get any of those quality players, we’ll definitely go for them.”
While Chiefs are yet to get a regular scorer, Sundowns are in the market for a striker despite Lucas Costa Ribeiro being the leading PSL scorer.
The Tshwane giants have long been linked with Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo although the forward is no longer regularly scoring and has lost his Bafana Bafana place.
“What I’ve also done is I’ve also given my opinion publicly about the situation to say that I think we need one more [striker],” Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena said.
“That is now resting on the desk of the sporting director and the football club to see how we can and what we can do because you also need one more in a qualitative perspective and not just to add numbers.”
Pirates have signed seven players but they have been linked with the likes of Sekhukhune United midfielder Elias Mokwana and Brooklyn Poggenpoel of Chippa United.
