Presidents at play

Some presidents love to believe they’re experts on everything, including medicine.

Donald Trump is pushing the drug chloroquine as treatment for Covid-19, against medical advice.

The president of Belarus is telling his people that steam and vodka will cure it.

Now Madagascan president Andry Rajoelina is promoting a local herbal remedy he claims has already cured two people.

Rajoelina — a businessman with no medical background — has prescribed the remedy for all Malagasy schoolchildren. The country’s medical school says its “scientific evidence has not been established”.
