KwaZulu-Natal police have decided not to charge a woman believed to be King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s girlfriend, who caused a security scare during the unveiling of King Shaka’s statue on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed in a brief statement that “no arrests were made by SAPS.”

Scrolla.Africa has learned that the woman, a well-known Durban businesswoman, spent Wednesday night with the King in Ballito, where he was staying before the event.

A source said she didn’t want the King to leave her the next morning when he was heading to the ceremony.

“She was upset and followed him to the venue in her Mercedes-Benz, driving without shoes,” the source said.

Security stopped her from entering the first location because she didn’t have an access tag, so she drove to the sports ground where the main event was held. Here, she reportedly shouted at security, saying she wanted to see “her baby” and tried to get onto the stage.

The scene upset the King’s wife, Queen Nomzamo kaMyeni, as the incident was broadcast live on TV.

The woman is a member of the Shembe Church in the eBuhleni faction.

Church spokesperson Thokozani Mncwabe said they were disappointed and wanted the church to address her behaviour as she embarrassed both the church and its leader, Unyazi lweZulu.
