Pole position changes yet again in Prem title race

Liverpool and Arsenal succumbed to home defeats on a shocking Sunday in the Premier League.

Lady luck was absent from Merseyside as the Reds were beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace despite keeping 70 percent of the ball and registering 21 attempts to the visitors’ eight.

Jurgen Klopp was left in shock as Eberechi Eze’s finish left Anfield in agony on a day of missed opportunities and a week of dismal results.

Following their draw at Old Trafford seven days ago and their shocking 3-0 defeat to Atalanta at home on Thursday, Liverpool they needed to bounce back. Once again, creativity was not the problem, wastefulness was.

The Reds total xG (expected goals) sat at 2.87, their most on record in a league match in which they did not score.

Liverpool’s disappointment would have only felt realer once Sunday’s late game had concluded, though, with the Gunners also falling to defeat at home.

With their two shots on target, Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins got fourth placed Aston Villa the win at the Emirates.

The result would have given Mikel Arteta nightmares of last season, for it was at this stage of the campaign that his side’s title hunt began to go downhill.

Had Liverpool won their game, the title race would have been back in their hands.

And while there may have been some comfort for the Reds from Arsenal’s defeat, the real winners of the night would only have been Manchester City, who now sit two points clear at the top of the pile.
