Rethabile Khumalo is fighting for her life in hospital after allegedly being poisoned by a friend.

Singer-songwriter Rethabile rose to fame when she was featured on DJ Zinhle’s single “Umlilo”, which went triple platinum and received over nine million views on YouTube.

Her mother, the singer Winnie Khumalo, famous for her “Ntyilo Ntyilo” hit, told Fakaza: “I thought I would keep quiet until my daughter was okay, but she is fighting for her life. She has been poisoned by a so-called friend.”

The “Live My Life” hitmaker told popular celebrity gossip Maphepha Ndaba that a case would be opened with the police regarding the poisoning incident.

She appealed to South Africans to pray for her daughter’s recovery, adding that her condition was unstable.

“She has been in the hospital for six days now. So I decided it’s only fair to share with her supporters this sad news. They have done three operations on her already,” she said.

“We were hoping that she would recover soon, but at the moment akukho kuhle (nothing good). When you pray, please include her. Ubunzima bokuba umzali (It’s difficult being a parent).”

A source said that Rethabile is scheduled for a fourth operation due to the poison spreading.
