- Mazwai says she never accused anyone of rape and denies making an apology, calling reports from 27 July lies.
- She says she was punished for reposting a tweet, and will only apologise directly if she ever feels she was wrong.
Poet and musician Ntsiki Mazwai has hit back at claims that she apologised to DJ Euphonik over a past court case, saying the reports are false and based on a private email that was twisted into something it is not.
In a video shared on Facebook, Mazwai, whose full name is Nontikelelo Mazwai, said a report published by Sunday World on 27 July was “inaccurate” and “a lie”.
She said she never called Euphonik a rapist and never made any apology. She also said no court has ever ordered her to apologise.
“I have never called anybody a rapist, falsely accused anybody of rape,” she said.
Mazwai said the only legal trouble she’s had was for reposting a tweet about abuse and abusers, not for making direct claims against anyone. She said people are creating stories she is not allowed to respond to because of a court order.
“I’m in a precarious position where narratives are being created, but I’m not allowed to respond,” she said.
She also denied that any apology was made. “Should there ever be an apology, you will get it directly from me via video when I know I’ve done something wrong,” she said.
Mazwai said the private email used in reports was about something else and had been twisted to sound like an apology about a rape accusation, which she says never happened.
DJ Euphonik, whose real name is Themba Nkosi, has not responded publicly to her latest statement.
This article has been updated to include Ntsiki Mazwai’s comment denying that she apologised to DJ Euphonik.
