Now he’s persona non Supra in North West

Supra Mahumapelo was once a powerful politician, but now, he appears to have lost the grip he once had on the North West province.

On Monday, Mahumapelo was ejected from a virtual parliamentary meeting, set up to discuss the government’s Section 100 intervention in the North West.

He told Scrolla.Africa afterwards that he was enraged and sent out a warning to anybody who thinks they can bully him.

“People are taking their hatred of me to the parliamentary committees that are aimed at resolving issues in the North West,” he said.

Mahumapelo, a loyal backer of former president Jacob Zuma, was kicked out of the meeting by his political opponent, China Dodovu, who chairs the ad hoc committee which dealt with the crisis in the North West.

Said Mahumapelo: “All members of the Parliament are allowed to attend any committee meeting. What Dodovu did is wrong and he must be reprimanded.”

Mahumapelo was not invited to the meeting.

The committee was led by Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.

When Dodovu, also from the North West, told Mahumapelo to leave the meeting, he tried in vain to fight back, but all committee members told him to leave.

He stormed out of the meeting a bitter man.

The ad hoc committee was formed in 2018 after chaotic public protests against Mahumapelo, which led to his resignation as premier of the North West.

Mahumapelo’s resignation came after Zuma was forced to resign as state president.

Mahumapelo is fighting his five-year suspension from the ruling party for what the party said was divisive behaviour after he held a parallel event during a by-election last year.
