A Ugandan polygamist father to 102 children has vowed to stop having children because of the increase in the cost of living.
Musa Hasahya, a 67-year-old farmer, fathered 102 children, birthed by his 12 wives. He has a whopping 568 grandchildren.
Hasahya has decided to stop having more as he is failing to provide for his mini-tribe sufficiently, and has asked his wives to start using contraception pills.
“My income has become lower and lower over the years due to the rising cost of living, and my family has become bigger and bigger,” he told The Sun.
Hasahya said he married one woman after another as a man cannot survive with only one wife.
He added that he lives with all of them in the same house.
“It makes it easy for me to monitor them and stop them from eloping with other men in the village,” he said.
Zukaika is his youngest wife. She is 31 years old and has birthed 11 children.
She has also vowed that she will not have more children.
“I have seen the bad financial situation and I am now taking birth control pills,” she said.
Hasahya’s youngest child is six, while his oldest is 51, about 20 years older than his youngest wife.
Hasahya can no longer work because of ill health and two of his wives have already left because of the financial strain.
Hasahya’s first marriage was to his wife Hanifa in 1971 when he was 16. He went on to drop out of school, and two years later he welcomed his first baby girl, The Mirror reports.
He is now appealing to the government for assistance as he’s struggling to fund the education of all of his children.
