No bus? No bash!

The EFF doesn’t mess around! When one of the party’s MPs in KwaZulu-Natal came up short after being tasked with hiring 20 buses for its 10th anniversary event, he was banned from going to the celebration.

Vusi Khoza, a former chairperson of the EFF in KwaZulu-Natal, is among 400 MPs and MPLs, as well as councillors, who were banned from attending the anniversary function on Saturday for their failure to mobilise buses to transport people to Gauteng.

Speaking to Scrolla.Africa, Khoza said the party instructed MPs to mobilise 20 buses per person. MPLs were each required to hire 10 buses, while councillors were asked to hire just one bus per person.

“A bus from KZN to Gauteng costs around R36,000. Which meant I had to mobilise funds of around R800,000 for 20 buses,” he explained.

Khoza admitted that he struggled to hire a single bus, let alone 20 of them.

“To be honest, I couldn’t even raise money for a single bus. I had to abide by the rules of our organisation, so I watched the anniversary proceedings on television like everyone else.”

Councillors from some municipalities in KZN also couldn’t attend because they failed to raise funds.

“It was very difficult because we are paid the municipal salary of around R14,000, so we didn’t have any means to fund the trip,” said a councillor who didn’t want to be named.

“It used to be very easy to organise a bus when we were deputy mayors and had a relationship with the IFP. Its leaders used to help us with transport whenever we wanted to take people to EFF gatherings.”

EFF KZN secretary Nkululeko Ngubane said it was a disgrace to use the IFP support as an excuse.

“We need to focus on the success of the anniversary. Those who are claiming that they used to be supported by the IFP are lying,” said Ngubane.

“The IFP is facing its own problem of firing its president. Maybe let’s allow them to focus on their own issues. The party is in crisis. [IFP president Velenkosini] Hlabisa should just fire these people who plot against him openly instead of helping EFF.”

EFF gave its members six months to organise buses and pay for supporters to transport people to the FNB stadium for the festivities.
