On Saturday, amapiano artist Mpura gave his mixtape to his two close friends, the duo Major League DJs, to play on their famous YouTube show, Balcony Mix.
Just two days later, Mpura died in a devastating car crash.
The promising young star was killed alongside fellow artists Killer Kau, Illuminated Greens and three other people on their way to a gig in Rustenburg on Monday morning.
In honour of Mpura, Major League DJs have said that they will release Mpura’s mixtape on Friday.
The DJing twins, whose real names are Bandile and Banele Mbere, posted a moving eulogy about the passing away of Umsebenzi Wethu hitmaker.
“Last week we spent the whole week with Phori (Dj Maphorisa) and Mpura discussing how they must submit their exclusive mixes for the Balcony Mix. Mpura only sent them Friday night and Phori sent them Friday morning.”
The brothers went on to recall the last time they spoke to their friend:
“So sad to think that the last time we spoke to Mpura was on Saturday night at 20:00pm, he asked boizens (Major League) for the exclusives and we told him that he needed to shoot his Balcony Mix.
“On Monday morning we were bothering Khaya about Mpura shooting his part and we were saddened to learn that he has passed. We are going to release this mix on Mpura’s behalf.”
