A mother, her sister and their sons have been arrested in Limpopo for allegedly killing the mother’s 12-year-old daughter for not coming home on time.

It’s alleged that the 31-year-old woman and her 37-year-old sister went to look for the girl on Wednesday last week when she failed to come back home in Mapayeni village, Giyani.

The sisters, together with their 15-year-old sons, found the girl, took her home and took turns assaulting her.

When they were finished, the mother ordered the girl to shower and locked her in the room.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the mother called the police and reported that she found her daughter in a room, unresponsive.

“An investigation was conducted and upon inspection of the body the police discovered that the deceased had visible injuries,” Ledwaba said.

A case of murder was opened and transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

The sisters and both teenage boys were arrested and charged with murder.

“The suspects are expected to appear before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Monday 12 December and the case against the two minors will be dealt with in terms of the Child Justice Act,” Ledwaba added.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has commended the members for their excellent investigation and hopes justice prevails for the victim.
