Hollywood actor and singer, Jaden Smith has said his mother, Jada Smith introduced him and the rest of the Smith family to psychedelic drugs.
He disclosed this at a Psychedelic Science conference in Denver, Colorado, last week, where he said his mother “was really the first one to make that step for the family.”
Psychedelic drugs are mind-altering drugs that produce changes in perception, mood, and cognitive function. They affect all the senses, altering a person’s thinking, sense of time, and emotions.
According to the Alcohol and Drugs Foundation, psychedelic drugs can cause a person to hallucinate — see or hear things that do not exist or are distorted.
“It was just her for a really, really long time and then eventually it just trickled and evolved, and everybody found it in their own ways,” Jayden said.
He also said psychedelics have played a major role in tightening the relationships with his sister, Willow and half-brother, Trey.
“Siblings can argue so much and fight so much, and lord knows me and my siblings have done so much of that in the past,” he said. “But the level of love and empathy that I can feel for them inside of the [psychedelic] experiences and outside of the experiences has been something that’s profound and beautiful.”
Jaden’s confession comes months after his mother, in her Red Table Talk show, discussed her experience with psychedelics. She spoke about her struggle with depression, disclosing how beneficial the psychedelics have been on her healing journey.
“I struggled with depression for so long. And the thing about plant medicine is it helps you feel better but also solves the problems of how you got there in the first place,” she said.
“You have to really wanna do it, this is not for play,” she said. “You have to be willing to confront some hard stuff. It is very healing and it has changed my life.”
