  • Police found the bodies in the bush in Mpumalanga after suspects showed them where the couple was left.
  • Five suspects have been arrested. They face charges like kidnapping, robbery, and having stolen goods.

Police have confirmed that they have found the bodies of missing journalist Sibusiso Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Mdluli.

Police discovered the remains on Thursday in a quiet, rural area in Mpumalanga. The suspects had told police where to look.

National police commissioner General Fannie Masemola said DNA tests would be conducted to confirm whether the bodies are those of Ndlovu and Mdluli.

“The area where the remains were found was pointed out by suspects as the place where they left the pair,” said Masemola.

Ndlovu and Mdluli were last seen in February. Ndlovu was seen leaving work on 18 February at around 6pm. After that, both disappeared.

Their disappearance led to a major police search. Five people have now been arrested.

Masemola said special police teams were brought in, including experts in cybercrime, organised crime, and violent crime.

Three people were arrested last Sunday. Two more were arrested later that evening.

“All five suspects are South African nationals and were caught in separate villages in KwaMhlanga,” said Masemola.

They are facing charges including kidnapping, carjacking, house robbery, drug possession, and possession of stolen goods and vehicles.

Police have not said why the couple was killed.

Journalists in a WhatsApp group for the African Media and Communicators Forum sent messages of support.

The news broke after Elija Mhanga shared a photo in the group confirming that the couple had died.
