Trevor Noah took a short holiday break in Mexico, but a hairy situation threatened to prolong his trip.
The South African comedian kicked off his Off the Record world tour in America on 20 January and had some time off, so thought: why not spend it in beautiful Mexico?
But when returning to the United States ahead of the 65th Grammy Awards, which Noah will be hosting, he was stopped by airport security.
Surely Noah had nothing in his luggage that could pose a problem for anyone, right? But the Mexican officials thought there was something very worrying in his bag.
The offending object: an afro comb… Yes, you better believe it.
“Afro comb confiscated by airport security,” Noah shared alongside a photo on Instagram Stories.
“They said they didn’t know what it was.”
An afro comb is not something used too often in Mexican culture and caused serious concern when popping up in Noah’s bag.
After the matter was resolved, Noah, with an uncombed afro, returned to Los Angeles.
The 65th annual Grammy Awards will be hosted by the 38-year-old on Sunday, seen by South Africans in the early hours of Monday morning.
This will be Noah’s third time hosting the awards.
“Every time I go to the Grammys, I discover a new artist that I didn’t fully appreciate, that I didn’t love for the reasons I should have,” Noah said on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
