  • Members of uMkhonto weSizwe Party rejected the claims, accusing Makhanya of disrespecting Zuma and pushing agendas of political enemies online.

Social media personality Max Makhanya has come under fire after accusing former president Jacob Zuma of betraying Ngizwe Mchunu.

Makhanya made the claims in a video shared on his social media platforms. In the video, he said Zuma cannot be trusted and turns his back on people who support him.

He claimed Zuma betrayed Mchunu, who he described as a loyal supporter during Zuma’s legal troubles.

Makhanya said Zuma failed to support Mchunu during unrest related court cases at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court. He said Zuma only appeared after Mchunu asked him to.

“Zuma is not loyal to the people who stood by him,” Makhanya said. He claimed Mchunu lost everything, including wives and cars, because of his support for Zuma.

He also criticised Zuma for not giving Mchunu a role when the uMkhonto weSizwe Party was formed. Makhanya said Zuma instead worked with people who were not present during his difficult times.

These comments angered many Zuma supporters, including members of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party.

Some supporters warned Makhanya not to disrespect Zuma. Others said Zuma never asked for support from Mchunu.

They also claimed Mchunu betrayed Zuma by switching loyalty to President Cyril Ramaphosa and the African National Congress before the 2024 elections.

Some accused Makhanya of being used to attack Zuma for political reasons.

Makhanya, who is from Mbumbulu south of Durban, is known for attacking public figures online. He has often criticised Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and Shembe Church leader Mduduzi Nyazilwezulu Shembe.

His comments about the king previously angered the Zulu royal family and leaders of Zulu regiments, who accused him of trying to damage the image of the Zulu nation.

Most of Makhanya’s comments are shared on his TikTok account.
