  • Detectives arrested the suspect on Monday after connecting him to both the street and house shootings in Pompano Crescent.
  • The man faces three charges of murder and two of attempted murder after a rampage in the early hours of Sunday.

The man accused of killing sisters Theresa Pullen and Fredericka Booysen has been arrested and charged.

The 22-year-old suspect appeared briefly in the Kariega Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. He is facing three murder charges and two attempted murder charges.

Police arrested him on Monday after detectives linked him to both the shooting outside and the deadly house attack in Pompano Crescent, Tiryville.

In the first attack, just after midnight on Sunday, police found a man’s body lying in an open area. He had been shot several times in the face and body.

Less than three hours later, gunmen broke into a house down the same street. They stormed into a bedroom and opened fire on five people.

Theresa Pullen, 32, and her sister Fredericka Booysen, 46, were shot in the head and died in their beds. A third woman was shot and is still in hospital in a critical condition. Two men in the room were not injured.

The sisters’ children were there and saw everything. On Monday, their sister Janine said the family is still in shock and afraid the attackers could return.

Nelson Mandela Bay district commissioner Major-General Vuyisile Ncata praised police for making a quick arrest.

The suspect’s case has been postponed while the investigation continues.
