- Theresa Pullen and Fredericka Booysen were murdered while their terrified children screamed in the room with them.
- A close friend who was also shot is fighting for her life in hospital after the 2am attack in Tyriville.
Two sisters were shot in the head and killed while lying in their beds during a home invasion in Kariega.
Theresa Pullen, 32, and her sister Fredericka Booysen, 46, were gunned down in the early hours of the morning while their children watched in horror.
The attack happened at their home in Pompano Crescent, Tyrelville, around 2:40am. Police say a group of gunmen kicked down the front door, stormed into the bedroom and opened fire on the three women inside.
A close friend who was with them was also shot. She is in hospital in a critical condition.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said police are still trying to work out the motive.
On Monday morning, their heartbroken sister Janine Pullen said she was battling to accept what had happened. The sisters were living with her at the time.
“The children were with them. They screamed and cried,” she said. “I wasn’t there, but that’s what we were told.”
Janine said the attackers were ruthless. “They shot both my sisters in the head. It was barbaric.”
She had to identify their bodies. “Their faces were ruined. I could only tell it was them by the clothes. It was so cruel.”
Booysen had two daughters, aged 12 and 22. Pullen had two sons.
The family are now terrified the killers will return. “We fear they’ll come back to finish what they started,” said Janine.
