Mzansi’s A-listers like Lasizwe, AKA and Prince Kaybee have all come out in support of students during their protests about registration issues at universities.

Television star Lasizwe set up a campaign titled #10GoesALongWay in an attempt to raise funds for students who are unable to pay their previous year’s tuition fees.

“I challenge you to tag your favourite celebrities and friends to help contribute R10 to #R10GoesALongWay initiative,” he tweeted. He said they had raised R400,000 so far.

“Use the hashtag #R10GoesALongWay. Let’s accelerate South African students.”

Popular DJ, Prince Kaybee supported the student movements by walking the streets with them in their fight for free education.

“Where is the #NationalShutdown protest taking place for students today? I wanna come join,” he tweeted.

“I’m inspired by the level of courage shown by the students marching for free education, even when they are bullied, beaten and shot by the police. Their pain is our pain.”

On Twitter, rapper AKA displayed his anger at SAPS for using live ammunition and rubber bullets on students.

“I have marched with the students before and I have no problem marching with them again, but any protest is always to be led by students and student leadership, It’s not my place to turn it into some sort of celebrity activity,” he tweeted.

Andile Mpisane, footballer, reality show star and actor donated R10,000 to each of the 20 university students that has recurring debt from 2020.

Students will be hoping that more local celebrities will follow suit in the coming days.
