Lindokuhle Mdletshe is excited to be the first black angler to represent South Africa at an international competitive event.

The KZN-born angler will participate at the world championships of the Federation Internationale de Peche Sportive (FIPS) in Paris, France from 28 May to 4 June.

Angling is not popular amongst black people in townships, but Lindokuhle got hooked from a very young age.

“I started angling at a young age with my father serving as my mentor. Where I grew up in the rural KwaMbonambi in Richards Bay on the KZN coast, we have many rivers so I was exposed to fishing,” he told Scrolla.Africa.

When he was employed by Basil Manning Fishing Equipment as a salesman five years ago, the love for angling grew even more.

“That’s when I learnt more about the tools of the trade and I must give credit to my boss Barry Wareham for showing me the ropes. I am looking forward to the experience

in Paris.”

The FIPS, which has been around since 1952, is the international sport federation representing a number of international federations concerned with angling sports that are carried out in fresh or seawater environments, fly fishing and with casting sport.
