KZN politicians agree – Gatsheni rocks

Popular maskandi artist Khuzani Ndlovu, better known as Gatsheni, is benefitting from his politically neutral public posture.

As a result, all major political parties in the country have booked him to perform in their rallies ahead of the 29 May elections.

His song Ibhodlela, which has turned into a de facto national anthem, has been by different parties to pull crowds into their rallies especially in KwaZulu-Natal

Maskandi veteran DJ Welcome Ntombela from Nongoma FM said this is the first time a maskandi artist has been so popular with various political parties.

“KZN is known for political violence during the election season, but Gatsheni’s song and performances on stage have turned this campaign into [another kind of] competition,” said Ntombela.

“You will see when he is on stage that every political leader wants to dance with him. In short, this is the first time we’ve observed an artist booked by all political parties, and he always avails himself.”

Gatsheni has performed with DA premier candidate Chris Pappas, IFP president Velenkosini Hlabisa, former president Jacob Zuma, and several ANC leaders in KZN.

In a recent interview, Gatsheni said that after completing matric, he struggled to find a job, but then turned to music.

He is originally from Pongola in the far north of KwaZulu-Natal.
