Celani Sikhakhane brings you KwaZulu-Natal’s latest news.
Nongoma: The leader of the Zulu regiments in Ulundi has made a special request from the government to give him R5-million to take young strong men to guard the border. Phakelumthakathi Ndabandaba made a request via social media and stated that he can get rid of illegal foreign nationals in one day who are entering the country every day. Mthakathi said that he can use that R5-million to buy food for his strong men to gain more physical power and strength to fight those who illegally entered South Africa via porous borders. His request has sparked noise among social media users as others claim that he was being ridiculous because he failed to deliver services while he was an IFP ward councillor in Nongoma between 2016 and 2021.
Pietermaritzburg: The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Thamsanqa Ntuli, has conveyed his deepest condolences to the Mazibuko family, the globally acclaimed group Ladysmith Black Mambazo and all music lovers following the passing of Mr Albert Mazibuko at the age of 77. Mazibuko, born in Ladysmith, Embuzweni, was a revered cultural icon and one of the longest-serving members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, having dedicated over five decades of his life to the group since joining in 1969. His distinctive voice and enduring presence played a significant role in shaping the group’s unique sound, which captivated audiences both locally and internationally. Premier Ntuli described Mr Mazibuko as a cultural ambassador who carried the rich heritage of isicathamiya music with dignity and pride. Affectionately known as “the librarian,” he was a custodian of the group’s history and a source of wisdom, humility and guidance to many within the music fraternity.
Mkhondeni: The Traffic Inspection Unit has uncovered what appears to be the biggest syndicate involved in fraud and corruption associated with driver’s license tests. On the instruction of Transport Minister Siboniso Duma, the elite unit is dismantling a syndicate operating in uMkhondeni Testing Centre. “We are now in possession of a corruption playbook following the arrest of a learner and an instructor from a private driving school,” the department said.
