Paulpietersburg: The community of eDumbe in Paulpietersburg at Bhadeni village had an early Freedom Day on Friday after a truck full of beer overturned on a gravel road. Thousands of beers were then looted by the community who rushed to the scene. Instead of saving the driver, all men and women rushed to save the bottles of beer. They looted the stock that was meant to boost the local economy of the area ahead of the long weekend.
Newark: The Social Development Minister in KwaZulu-Natal Mbali Shinga has called on communities to work closely with police in order to fight the vicious crimes that are ravaging many areas in KwaZulu-Natal. Shinga was reacting to the mass killing of seven family members who were attacked and kidnapped during a robbery. Reports indicate that a maid who worked for the victims arrived at her place of work on Wednesday morning and found the house broken into, with seven people and a vehicle missing. Police uncovered that one of the suspects, who worked for the victims, allegedly broke into the victims’ house with his accomplices and tied them up with rope. One of the suspects allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman before loading them onto a vehicle belonging to one of the victims and drove to Melmoth, a distance of approximately 200km from the scene, where they killed them.
Scottburgh: A reckless driver Muhammad Khan has been fined R50,000 or 12 months in prison, of which half is suspended, after being caught speeding on the N2 in Scottburgh. Khan appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrates Court to face a charge of exceeding the general speed limit. KZN Transport Minister Siboniso Duma said that the RTI Police have in the past arrested well-known criminals, lawyers, engineers, accountants, doctors, police officers, soldiers, bodyguards, undocumented foreign nationals, truck drivers, taxi drivers, pastors, teachers, nurses, prosecutors, civil servants and many more professionals. “Our message is very clear, nobody is above the law. Finally, as we approach two long weekends, we will augment our NenzaniLaEzweni operations with the use of cutting-edge technology. The Automatic Number Recognition System has been fitted to patrol vehicles,” said Duma.
