Marrianhill Toll Plaza – Two criminals were arrested shortly after the launch of a new Crime Recognition Software called Ummemezi Wezimoto, ahead of the busy Easter weekend. KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, teamed up with MTN to launch the high-tech crime-fighting system. Just hours after the launch, police used the software to recover a stolen Golf 8 GTI. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Witbank, and the system flagged it using the case number on record. A new case is being opened, and the suspect is heading to jail. Another case involved a fake Temporary Vehicle Permit. The permit was flagged as fraudulent, and the suspect was arrested on the spot. Duma said 110 motorists have already been charged for breaking traffic laws. He also warned that anyone caught driving drunk this Easter could face six months in prison.
