KwaMaphumulo: People in KwaMaphumulo are dealing with the fallout of a church dispute that led to children being removed from a home.
Traditional leaders in the Qwabe area told church leader Vusi Sibiya to send his followers away. They warned him to act or face stronger action.
The decision came after a tense meeting with community members and traditional leaders. Many said they were angry about the church and its activities.
Leaders said the people living at Sibiya’s home were not known in the village. They said the group had never been introduced to any traditional structure. They also said the church was operating illegally in the area.
The Department of Social Development first raised concerns about the church. Officials were worried about what was happening at the home.
During the meeting, Sibiya agreed to remove his followers.
Authorities have since rescued 19 children from the place known as eKhaya labaFundi bakaJehova.
