Pietermaritzburg: Tables are turning at the KZN Legislature ahead of the motion of no confidence against KZN Premier Thami Ntuli as EFF changes its mind to support MK Party motion while the NFP President Ivan Barnes is calling for their member Minister Mbali Shinga to vote in favour of the motion to remove Ntuli. The EFF KZN Legislature caucus leader Mongezi Thwala told SABC News that they are now fully behind the motion but they are still in consultation with other parties. The EFF recently rejected the motion and claimed they won’t support anything that comes with the MK Party. NFP President Barnes on the other hand has made it clear that their member Minister Shinga of Social Development will have to abide by the rules of the party that sent her to the Legislature which is the NFP to support the removal of Ntuli. There are also rumours that some members of the ANC who were hoping to be ministers if they work with the MK Party might support the vote through the secret ballot.
Dundee: The body of a 35-year-old woman who was swept away by floods at Sibongile Township in Dundee under eNdumeni local municipality in the north of KZN on Saturday is still missing. KwaZulu-Natal Traditional Affairs Minister Rev. Thulasizwe Buthelezi confirms that search and recovery operations are continuing in Dundee. Specialised SAPS Search and Rescue units, supported by Disaster Management teams and community volunteers, are combing riverbanks and surrounding areas in a determined effort to locate the missing person. Drone technology is being deployed to assist teams in scanning inaccessible areas and improving search efficiency.
Nkandla: Police in KwaZulu-Natal arrested five suspects aged between 34 and 70 years old for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The arrests and recoveries were achieved during operations conducted at Melmoth and Nkandla policing areas. An intelligence-driven operation was conducted by police officers from Ulundi Public Order Policing at Thubalethu area under the Melmoth policing area. This was after credible information was gathered on two individuals who were suspected of being in possession of unlicensed firearms. On Tuesday, a team of dedicated police officers raided a house in Thubalethu where, upon searching, they found a stripped shotgun. A 35-year-old foreign national who was in the house could not produce documentation permitting him to be in possession of such a firearm. He was arrested and charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
