Durban – The names of prominent ANC leaders in KwaZulu-Natal are under discussion to replace the current Provincial Executive Committee, if an expected call from the National Executive Committee to disband the PEC is successful this coming weekend. The current PEC is led by chairperson Sboniso Duma and secretary Bheki Mtolo. Mzwandile Mkhwanazi and Siphile Mdaka – of the Tolomane Mnyayiza region (formerly known as Lower South Coast) and Nokuhamba Nyawo region in Mkhanyakude respectively – are said to be favoured to take over. ANCWL KZN convener Bongi Sithole-Moloi will serve in an interim structure. Sources stated that Mike Mabuyakhulu and Dr Zakhele Buthelezi will be included in the interim leadership of the ANC.
Ethekwini – KZN MEC for Public Works Martin Meter has saved the biggest hijacked building in Durban and plans to hand it over to the City of eThekwini. Westpoint Lodge was turned into a den of criminal activities including drug dealing and sexual activities many years ago. The official handover by MEC Meyer to eThekwini mayor Cyril Xaba was planned to take place on Thursday, but was postponed to allow for the completion of due processes.
Pietermaritzburg – A 36-year-old suspected hitman has been arrested in the Mpolweni area near Pietermaritzburg. He will be charged with the murder of Sergeant Ntombi Mbanjwa, 33, and is expected to appear in the Umzimkhulu Magistrate’s Court on 17 January. On Monday, 25 November 2024, Hawks members from Port Shepstone arrested Sergeant Ntokozo Mngqithi, 34, for organising the murder of his fiancée, Sergeant Mbanjwa. On 11 April 2024, Sergeant Mbanjwa was at their home in Umzimkhulu when she was shot by an unknown suspect. No one was present during the incident and Sergeant Mngqithi claimed to have discovered the crime when he returned home later that evening. Both members were stationed at Umzimkhulu police station.
