Durban: Premier Thami Ntuli says the youth of KwaZulu-Natal are ready to lead the continent into a brighter future.
Speaking at the Africa Day celebrations at the Durban ICC on Monday, Ntuli praised the energy and creativity of the province’s young people. He said their big dreams match the historic spirit of 1963 when the Organisation of African Unity was formed in Addis Ababa.
Ntuli urged the province to see itself at the very centre of the African story. The celebrations took place despite ongoing local tensions regarding illegal immigration.
Eshowe: Two men have been sentenced to life in prison for the brutal murder of a 77-year-old woman.
Mxolisi Bhekani Sithole, 30, and Fisokuhle Scelo Mhlongo, 31, pleaded guilty to the July 2025 killing in Melmoth. They claimed they murdered the elderly traditional healer because they believed she was bewitching them.
The court heard how the pair broke into her home at midnight. They assaulted and strangled the woman before slitting her throat. The National Prosecuting Authority welcomed the heavy sentence.
Impendle: The provincial government has stepped in to take control of the troubled Impendle Local Municipality.
The KZN Department of Cooperative Governance has placed the municipality under administration. The drastic move follows a total collapse in leadership. The council has failed to perform basic duties, including electing a mayor or appointing a chief financial officer.
Traditional Affairs MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi has appointed Sthembiso Mthembu to run the municipality and fix the ongoing crisis.
