Pinetown: Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams will remain in custody. The 49 year old appeared in the Pinetown Magistrates Court. He faces three counts of fraud. He also faces two counts of defeating the administration of justice.
Adams represents the National Coloured Congress.
The state opposed his release. The court postponed his bail hearing to 13 May 2026. Prosecutors claim Adams visited Westville Prison twice. He went in November 2024 and January 2025.
He interviewed two inmates awaiting trial. One inmate is accused of murdering Sindiso Magaqa. Adams allegedly recorded these talks.
The state says he lied to authorities. He told police and prison staff he was on official duty. They gave him an escort from King Shaka International Airport. Adams lacked permission from investigators or defence lawyers. Parliament did not approve his visits.
Pietermaritzburg: The Chief Financial Officer for the provincial Department of Transport confronted angry contractors. Thabane Nkosi spoke at a chaotic meeting this week.
Nkosi blamed contractors for delayed payments. He said they built a bribery ring inside the department. These contractors bypassed normal rules. They paid officials to sign their invoices early. Nkosi said they corrupt the system and then complain.
The contractors defended their actions. They claimed they use shortcuts because the department prioritises white and Indian owned companies.
Durban: Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi will lead police mourners this Friday. They will pay their respects to Captain Louis Cornelius Nel. He was killed in a Mount Edgecombe ambush on 30 April.
The funeral takes place at the Durban Christian Centre Jesus Dome. Premier Thami Ntuli will deliver the eulogy.
