UMzimkhulu – The ANC Youth League in KZN is fighting with LGBTQ+ groups over a rape case where a woman allegedly raped her 13-year-old daughter’s relative for three years. The argument started when the Youth League described the suspect as a “lesbian” in a statement. LGBTQ+ members say the league should have simply called her a “woman” without mentioning her sexuality. This made Youth League leaders angry, asking why the LGBTQ+ community tries to hide sexuality when someone is accused of a crime but highlights it when they’re victims. The accused will appear in court on Thursday.
Durban – KZN people are worried after weather services warned of level 6 heavy rain with thunder and floods coming. Eight municipalities have been told to prepare for severe weather on Thursday and Friday. Durban has also warned residents after recent floods destroyed homes, graveyards and cars in different parts of the city. Seven people have already died in the Durban floods.
Hammasdale – Police have caught a 28-year-old man for killing school principal Busani Khomo last December. Khomo, 57, was shot dead on 5 December 2024 while driving out of school on Sofasonke Road in Mpumalanga Township, west of Durban. Police arrested the suspect on Tuesday during a special operation in the township.
