Celani Sikhakhane brings you KwaZulu-Natal’s latest news.
uMsinga: The DA in KwaZulu-Natal has described the MK Party visit at KwaZenzele High School in uMsinga as a disgrace and warned the party against turning schools into a political playground. This comes after uMkhonto weSizwe Party member of KZN Legislature Smanga Mabaso earlier this week entered KwaZenzele High School in Msinga wearing MK Party clothes, filmed learners’ faces and distributed MK-branded certificates. The DA’s Sakhile Mngadi says this brazen politicisation of a school is both illegal and unethical. He claims Mabaso’s actions are in clear violation of the South African Schools Act 84 of 1996, which protects schools as apolitical spaces dedicated to teaching and learning.
uMlazi: KZN Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi revealed that the province is facing a rapid decline of South African Police Service members. He says as the population continues to grow, police officers have declined from 25,000 down to 19,000, which poses a threat in the fight against crime. Mkhwanazi was speaking at uMlazi’s Glebelands Hostel during the crime imbizo organised by KZN Premier Thami Ntuli on Tuesday.
Ladysmith: Transport MEC Siboniso Duma has warned Klipriver Scholar Transport that removing school children from private transport of their teachers or parents is totally illegal. Duma made the warning after a circular issued last week where Klipriver Scholar Transport instructed teachers that from 11 August 2025 they are no longer allowed to lift or carry any learner in their vehicles. The instruction has drawn outcry from the National Professional Teachers Organisation, which described the order as illegal and life-threatening to teachers and learners.
