Pietermaritzburg: Eighty-three South African Police Service officers from across KwaZulu-Natal will take part in the 99th Comrades Marathon on Sunday. The officers will join thousands of runners in the 87.7km uprun from Durban to Pietermaritzburg. Acting KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Phumelele Makhoba said the officers will run to promote safer communities and raise awareness about gender based violence and femicide. “As a runner myself, I know the sacrifices and hard work needed to prepare for a marathon. I wish all our officers representing the South African Police Service the very best in the 2026 Comrades Marathon,” said Makhoba.
Durban: The murder case of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane has been postponed to 13 August 2026 for the finalisation of pre-trial proceedings. The Durban High Court confirmed that the trial will run from 5 October to 6 November 2026. Seven accused appeared in court on Thursday. They are Siyabonga Gezani Ndimande, Malusi Dave Ndimande, Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi, Lindani Zenzele Ndimande, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande. The accused face charges including conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of murder, attempted murder and firearm-related offences.
uMhlathuze: The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal has congratulated Councillor Muzi Mtshali on his election as deputy mayor of uMhlathuze Local Municipality in Richards Bay. Mtshali takes over following the death of former deputy mayor Christo Botha. KwaZulu-Natal Democratic Alliance leader Sithembiso Ngema wished Mtshali well in his new position. “We must remember Christo Botha’s vision of building a municipality that serves all residents. His commitment to service remains an example for us all,” said Ngema.
