The commemoration of the 110th anniversary of the death of King Dinuzulu kaCetshwayo has caused friction between King Misuzulu kaZwelithini and the KwaZulu-Natal government because the King was not consulted on the ceremony.
This conflict has led KZN Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube to postpone the planned 10 March commemoration in KwaCeza, near Nongoma.
On Wednesday, the King expressed his frustration, objecting to the provincial government’s decision regarding the commemoration date and organisation without consulting the royal family.
A statement released by the Zulu monarch’s traditional prime minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, clearly stated the King’s position.
“His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini will not attend the event. His Majesty will not be represented by any delegation from the royal family.
“While His Majesty appreciates the government’s efforts to honour King Dinuzulu, the dates and venues for such important royal events must be approved by His Majesty the King before being publicised.”
Following the King’s objection, Dube-Ncube has apologised. The ceremony has now been rescheduled for Saturday 16 March.
