Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer.
It did not share what kind of cancer King Charles has.
The diagnosis came following treatment for an enlarged prostate, which is not related to his cancer.
Starting Monday, the King, aged 75, has begun treatment and will decrease his public engagements during this period.
He still aims to continue fulfilling his duties as head of state, including his constitutional responsibilities and private meetings.
The King has told his family about his condition, with both Prince William and Prince Harry being in close communication.
Prince Harry plans to visit the UK from the US to see his father soon. King Charles, keeping a positive outlook, wants to resume full public duties as quickly as his treatment allows.
This news follows a recent prostate procedure the King underwent for a benign condition, during which the cancer was identified.
He has confirmed that he will keep the public fully informed about his condition to avoid rumours and speculation.
The Royal Society of Medicine has praised the King for his openness, encouraging the public to engage in cancer screenings.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, and Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle have all expressed their wishes for the King’s swift recovery.
US President Joe Biden also sent his support, speaking on his personal experiences with cancer.
King Charles rose to the throne following Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022, and his diagnosis comes as he and Queen Camilla have international visits planned.
The Palace has not yet confirmed any changes to these scheduled engagements.
