King Cetshwayo’s bronze necklace stolen

The Zulu royal family is shocked that the giant bronze necklace of King Cetshwayo kaMpande was stolen on Wednesday.

The necklace was on display inside the gates at the entrance of the Isandlwana Mountain in Nquthu.

King Misuzulu KaZwelithini’s spokesperson, Prince Afrika Zulu, said that they suspect sabotage to ruin the 1879 battle of Isandlwana commemoration.

The event is planned to take place next week on Saturday 27 January.

Police told Scrolla.Africa that the bronze was taken on Wednesday and they have not arrested anyone but are still investigating.

Prince Afrika of the Onkweni royal house said that it is quite disturbing that someone could show such disrespect to a historic symbol of the Zulu nation.

“We are deeply disturbed and we suspect that there’s sabotage to mire the commemoration in such criminal activities.

“We call on the police to leave no stone unturned to find this treasure and the culprits. But the preparations are at an advanced stage to host this significant commemoration next week,” he said.

The incident occurred a day before the commemoration event for King Cetshwayo kaMpande, which was held last Thursday in Nkandla at his gravesite.

King Cetshwayo kaMpande was laid to rest there in February 1884 following his return from exile in Britain.
