Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brylon Petersen has a backup plan if things don’t work out with his football career.
Brylon, known to be a car fanatic, has a BSc Mechanical Engineering degree from Wits University.
Brylon was promoted to Chiefs’ senior team three years ago but he has yet to crack it into the starting line up with Itumeleng Khune, Daniel Akpeyi and Bruce Bvuma far ahead of him.
“The degree is obviously a back-up plan. I must have something when my football career is done. But also I can’t sit with my degree because it will become irrelevant as time goes by,” he told Sowetanlive.
“I’m curious about the processes of how different cars are manufactured. I like to get my hands dirty. I think my love for cars is the reason I’m here today.
“I’m creative. Engineering is a process. Obviously, football was also a passion but with my father in a trucking business it was easy to have a connection with vehicles,’’ he said.
The saying goes that goalkeepers don’t get old but they just mature, but at his age, Brylon should be commanding a number one jersey.
With an exodus of players set to leave Amakhosi in coming days, will he stay or go?
For the sake of his career, a departure from Chiefs to find game time elsewhere won’t be such a bad idea.
