Al Ahly may have beaten Mamelodi Sundowns but Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane knows the job is not done yet.
Mosimane’s team have a two-goal lead after beating Sundowns 2-0 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.
56-year-old Mosimane saw his side being dominated at home by Downs on Saturday. The Brazilians had better ball possession and they could have easily won the match if they capitalised on their scoring chances, but Ahly still managed to get those two important goals.
The former Sundowns coach himself said there was still a possibility that Masandawana could turn things around when they play again on Saturday in Tshwane at 3pm. Sundowns have only tasted defeat on two occasions this season at home in all competitions.
“This tie still has a heartbeat. Sundowns can still turn around this thing. I have big respect for players and supporters of Sundowns,” said Mosimane.
“It was a difficult match but we knew how to manage it. I believe we will go to South Africa and get the required result. We want to keep the clean sheet and we need to score.”
Mosimane has been under immense pressure recently and will hope progressing in the competition changes that. A draw at Loftus Stadium will be enough to see the Red Devils progress to the semi-final of this competition and keep their hopes of defending their title alive.
As for Downs, they will need to win by 3-0 to stand any chance of progressing.
