It’s war in the City of Gold

PICK OF THE SPORT: Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs clash in the Soweto Derby this Saturday, with Pirates chasing second place and Chiefs fighting to save face, writes Dylan Bettencourt. 

It’s Soweto Derby weekend, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates lock horns at 15:00 on Saturday in a clash loaded with pride and pressure. Pirates are flying high in second and still chasing league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, while Chiefs are fighting just to stay in the top eight. With the season drawing to a close, this isn’t just about bragging rights—it’s about who finishes where. 

At the same time, Stellenbosch travel to Golden Arrows hoping to leapfrog Sekhukhune into third, while the league leaders Sundowns will look to edge even closer to the title against struggling Cape Town City on Saturday night. 

City are in a freefall and in real danger of slipping into the relegation zone, while SuperSport and Richards Bay are also desperate for points in their respective fights for survival.
