Coach Pitso Mosimane has poured cold water on widespread rumours linking Thembinkosi Lorch to his Saudi Arabian First Division side Al-Ahli.
Lorch, the attacking Bafana Bafana midfielder, is unsettled at Orlando Pirates and has managed just five games this season.
Earlier this month, Pirates coach Jose Riveiro fuelled speculation that Lorch could be on his way out when he seemed disinterested in giving an update on the player’s health. The player underwent routine surgery in November.
Last week, his agent Jazzman Mahlakgane told Scrolla.Africa that he could not clarify his client’s situation.
As murmurs increased that the player was set to make a sensational move to the Middle East, Mosimane moved swiftly on Monday to set the record straight.
“If Al Ahli wants Thembinkosi Lorch, Chairman Khoza and I would be the first to know about that,” the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach said on Twitter.
“Nobody will know until Orlando Pirates announce that the deal has been done. If the news is true, then I am not aware of that.”
Mosimane’s side started the year on a high note with a 2-0 win over Al-Shoula. They are currently placed sixth on the log table with 24 points from 13 matches.
Al Ahli take on log leaders Al-Faisaly (who have collected 30 points) on Saturday in what pundits believe will go a long way in deciding the outcome in the battle for promotion to the Saudi Pro League.
