ā€˜Iā€™m not a bad person!ā€™ ā€” Lebo Msiza

By Doreen Mokgolo

Actor Lebo Msiza has come out to clear his public image, claiming he is the opposite of what people see on screen.

The actor is known for his role in the drama series, The Queen, where he played the role of Clive, and Generation: The Legacy.

Speaking to Scrolla.Africa the Kwa-Thema-born actor said that in many of the shows he was cast in, he played the villain roles but it doesnā€™t mean he is one in real life.

ā€œI often get approached in public about my actions in the scenes and expected to account which comes as a shock.

ā€œI understand that viewers take our roles very seriously and want to hold me accountable, in reality, I try to stay out of controversy and conflict by all means,ā€ he said.

Though the actor doesnā€™t have formal training in the field he took a chance with the little acting skills he learned in church to pursue a career in the field.

ā€œI was eager and ready to work hard to achieve this goal, there were times I worked for free just to be in front of the camera.

ā€œI would work at a salon to raise funds to afford to attend auditions and castings.

ā€œTo this day I believe that experience helped me to develop a thick skin that one needs to make it in this industry,ā€ he added.

The soft-spoken actor who comes across as shy but comes alive in front of the camera is a product of the Duma Ndlovu Actorā€™s Academy, funded by the seasoned producer Duma KaNdlovu.

ā€œThe academy was open to actors with formal training but I was one of the few who were absorbed only through talent.

ā€œI promised myself to work two times harder to prove that I deserved to be there like everyone else with qualification and I completed the programme,ā€ he explained.

He is currently shooting a drama series which will be broadcast early next year on Mzansi Magic.
