Gunners leave it late in pulsating Villa Park clash

The 4-2 away win for the leaders fails to tell the tale of an absolute thriller between Aston Villa and Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta’s side showed the resilience that wins you titles against the Gunners’ former boss Unai Emery as Arsenal went three points clear of Manchester City at the top of the league.

Arsenal went behind twice in the first half with Olie Watkins and Phillipe Coutinho scoring before and after Bukayo Saka levelled matters.

Oleksandr Zinchenko equalised again on the hour mark before the Gunners showed their mettle again in stoppage time.

A Jorginho rocket went in off Emiliano Martinez as the away end erupted before a classic counter attack in the dying embers saw Gabriel Martinelli slot home.

Arsenal ended their four game winless streak with quite a victory; and Jorginho summed the game up in one line. “That’s the Premier League,” he said post-match, “that’s why it’s the best league in the world”.

Manchester City have an opportunity to go back to the summit when they face Nottingham Forest on the goal rush. While Liverpool make a trip to Newcastle in the late game.

On Sunday, Manchester United host Leicester before Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham face off in a London derby.
