As Liverpool prepare to host Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, Arsenal showed that they are very much still in the Premier League title race.
A late Kai Havertz strike sent Mikel Arteta’s side to the top of the pile for the first time since Boxing Day as the Gunners picked up a 2-1 win over Brentford.
Declan Rice opened the scoring at the Emirates before the Bees equalised through Yoane Wissa in first half stoppage time.
Aaron Ramsdale made some vital second half stops to keep the scores level. When it mattered most, though, Havertz would net his fourth league goal in as many matches.
Ben White was the creator as the Englishman registered both assists in another vital win for the North Londoners.
The win leaves Arsenal one point clear of Liverpool who take on third-placed Manchester City on Sunday with top spot on the line.
In the day’s early game Manchester United beat Everton 2-0 courtesy of a couple of spot-kick finishes from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.
On the goal rush, Bournemouth and Sheffield United played out an entertaining 2-2 stalemate while Wolves beat Fulham 2-1 at Molineux and Crystal Palace and Luton Town drew 1-1 at Selhurst Park.
