- A 45-year-old man was arrested for shooting a pregnant KFC cashier in Gqeberha; both the woman and her unborn child are stable.
- Police praised the swift arrest, highlighting their focus on combating crimes against women, children, and gun violence.
Police in Gqeberha have arrested a man who shot a pregnant KFC cashier through a drive-through window in Zwide on 13 January.
Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge confirmed that the victim, a 35-year-old woman who is four months pregnant, was shot in the stomach during the incident. “Despite her injuries, she is in stable condition, and her unborn child was not harmed,” said Beetge.
Kwazakhele detectives identified and arrested the 45-year-old suspect on 20 January. He appeared at the New Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 22 January, with his formal bail application set for 28 January.
Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major General Vuyisile Ncata, commended the investigative team. “Crimes against women and children and gun violence are top priorities in our fight against crime. This incident shocked the community and police alike. The suspect’s arrest ensures justice will be served,” said Ncata.
