Drivers in Gauteng must be careful on the roads as bad weather continues.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said the City of Johannesburg is facing dangerous weather.

The South African Weather Service has sent out warnings for heavy rain, flooding and possible bad storms throughout the week.

The bad weather started over the past weekend and will carry on.

Drivers are told to slow down, keep their headlights on and leave more space between cars.

They must avoid driving through flooded roads or bridges. Even if the water looks shallow, it is dangerous.

Some dangerous areas include big highways like the N1, M1 and N3.

Other roads to watch out for are in Midrand, Sunninghill, Sandton, Soweto, Lenasia and Alexandra. Roads near rivers like the Jukskei are especially dangerous.

Emergency services in Tshwane have also sent out a level 4 warning. They have asked communities to stay alert.

Drivers should check traffic updates and weather warnings before they travel so they can stay safe.
