While the transfer window in Europe has come to an end, Wolves might still be able to bring Diego Costa back to the Premier League. Meanwhile in South Africa, Pirates man Collins Makgaka could be on his way to a PSL rival. Here’s the latest.

Europe

After their new signing Sasa Kalajdzic picked up a horrific ACL injury at the weekend, Wolves will look to free agent Costa to improve their squad in front of goal with the striker already having undergone a medical at Molineux.

The only issue so far for Bruno Lage’s side is that the Spaniard has not been granted a work permit as yet. Wolves have appealed and a panel will make a decision on the former-Chelsea man within the next two days.

Despite the European window being closed, free agents can still sign contracts with clubs, allowing the likes of Ross Barkley and Juan Mata to play in the big leagues this season.

Things just did not work out for Barkley at Stamford Bridge, but his talent was always known following his breakthrough at Everton before signing with Chelsea.

Now, after being released by the Blues, the Englishman has signed with French club OGC Nice. The 28-year-old will contest in the Uefa Conference League as he wears the number 11 shirt for the Ligue 1 side.

Mata, on the other hand, has over a decade of Premier League experience at Chelsea and Manchester United and remains a free agent despite links to Leeds United during the window.

South Africa

In local news, Stellenbosch FC are still trying to bring Pirates man Makgaka to the club.

Despite playing a part in the defeat to Maritzburg United at the weekend, the 26-year-old is being looked at as an attacking option for Stellies. Whether the Soweto giants are willing to enter negotiations or not remains to be seen.

Elsewhere in Soweto, Kaizer Chiefs have missed out on forward Luís Miquissone. The Mozambican forward has signed a deal with Saudi club Abha after scoring five goals at Al Ahly and leading the club to the bronze medal in the Fifa Club World Cup.

Amakhosi have also seen their former target Musa Noah Kamara join Libyan side Al-Ittihad SC. The 22-year-old almost joined Chiefs in July before withdrawing their pursuit of the Sierra Leone international.

Bafana Bafana international Percy Tau’s transfer saga continues to drag on with Al Ahly apparently desperate to get rid of the striker.

Tau is carrying a long-term back injury and has seen a move to a French club Le Havre fall through as the European window slammed shut.

Even though he has two years left on his deal, the Egyptian club wants to make back as much of the R30 million they spent on him, reports Soccer Laduma.
