On Tuesday, 266,988 vaccines were administered across the country, taking the total number of vaccines administered to 11,076,106.

The majority of people have opted for the Pfizer jab with 8.5 million of those vaccines administered while 2,5 million have received the Johnson & Johnson shots.

The National Department of Health said that Gauteng was leading the way with total vaccines administered at 2,083,300 followed by KZN and the Western Cape, with both provinces having administered around 1.7 million jabs.

The Department also confirmed that the Northern Cape had the least number of jabs, inoculating only 214,259 individuals thus far.

Since the 18-34 age group became eligible to receive their Covid-19 jabs on 20 August, 889,740 vaccines have been administered, taking the daily average to 177,948.

Approximately 12,50% of the adult population of South Africa has now been fully vaccinated.

Despite the vaccine rollout improving in the last week, Tuesday also saw 10,346 new cases of Covid-19 with 369 individuals succumbing to the virus. KZN is regarded as the epicentre of the virus with 31% of new cases coming from that province.
